The only camp in Africa run entirely by women

Set within the Central Serengeti, Dunia Camp is a magnificent spot for wildlife spotting. Dunia has eight spacious canvas tents that overlook the great and golden plains. Enjoy some time in the open-sided main tent where you may even get the chance to spot lions as they scan the plains for their prey. Relax in one of the leather armchairs and scan the horizon for movement, sip on a sweet cocktail before heading into the dining tent for a luxurious meal. All the food is prepared by the on-site chefs using produce from the local communities. You can enjoy a delicious cooked breakfast out on the deck that overlooks the Serengeti, and with every meal, you will have the option to take it out for a safari picnic.

The main mess tent is home to the aesthetically designed lounge, with large open sides to look out over the plains from every angle, wooden floors and natural styled chairs and sofas that are brilliant spots to relax after a long day out in the bush. Grab a book off the bookshelf and learn about the wonders you have witnessed in the day. Just a short walk from the main tent is a large campfire where you will enjoy a nice cold drink as you discuss your adventures with fellow travellers. Enjoy a meal outside as breakfast, lunch and dinner can be served outside or in the dining tent. The dining tent has a covered roof but is set upon a deck where you will see wildlife whilst you enjoy the many tastes of Africa that are provided by the chefs. Another unique element to Dunia is that the tented campsite’s staff is entirely made up of women and is the only camp like this in Africa.

Each of the eight glorious canvas tents has a private deck with a built-in sofa so you can either wake up and enjoy your morning coffee or settle down in the evening with a glass of wine and look out over the golden plains. The spacious bedroom is designed for practicality and luxury, with a four-poster double bed for you to rest your head, readying you for the next day's adventure. The simplistic design was created so as not to pull away from the beauty of the landscape. Every tent has its private bathroom with double sinks and a hot shower, designed with natural wood fixtures for optimal luxury.

Activities at Dunia Camp

See the miraculous wonders that the Serengeti has on offer through a game drive. If you head out on an early morning drive, you may have the chance to see some big predators like lions, cheetahs and maybe the illustrious leopard as it is during this time that they are most active. Your expert guide will take you to all the known hotspots for wildlife spotting and tell you all about the tracking process. Don’t forget the chance to witness the Great Migration, where thousands of wildebeest cross the Serengeti, wading through the treacherous Mara River to birth their young.

At an additional cost, you can explore the Serengeti plains from the sky on a hot-air balloon safari. You will soar through the clouds and watch the sunrise over the plains, witness the herds galloping before you settle down for a delicious bush breakfast upon landing. You may also want to enjoy one of Namiri Plains magical photographic safari. Head out in one of the specially modified photographic vehicles that allow you to shoot the wildlife at eye level.

Tripadvisor comments Dunia Camp

There is really no way to describe how special Dunia Camp is. The camp itself has eight guest tents (one is a family tent), one dining tent, and one store tent. The game viewing here is incredible just from the tents, let alone when you go out for drives. We got to see so many incredible animals, and even got to witness a cheetah hunt! But as others have said, what makes this place so amazing is the staff. Angel has created a culture here that just makes you feel at home. We arrived stressed and left truly relaxed and grateful. You will have great conversations while watching bush TV and sharing communal dinners, and you will leave wiser, happier, and thankful for this incredible place. I can’t recommend Dunia enough.

I ... had 4 nights/5 days before my meetings to do a short safari. I stayed the entire time at Dunia camp. The staff is very kind and helpful, the meals were superb, and my tent was super. My safari driver, Ayubu, was very flexible and knowledgeable. We were alone for the entire time so he went out of his way to ensure I had the best experiences. Saw the big 5 and more! Usually, I had my own table for breakfast and lunch, which I liked, and at dinner, all the guests ate at the same table to share stories. ... I highly recommend this camp.
