Far away from the tourist herd

Nestled in the north of the Serengeti plains is Taasa Lodge, a private safari lodge that is far away from the crowds. The lodge brings luxury and beauty to its guests, with beautiful designs and exquisite views of the plains at every corner. Enjoy a delectable breakfast and watch the wildebeest gallop by, dip your toes into the pool as the zebras graze and then tuck yourself into bed as the stars above you glisten. The main lodge has a thoughtful design whilst trying to highlight the grace of Serengeti National Park. Using timber and large picture windows allow for a sturdy structure that does not inhibit the views of the animals and the plains. Cosy up on one of the many large sofas in the lounge by the fireplace, with pops of colour and brilliant local artwork to style. Sit in the comfort of the lounge all the while looking out at the gorgeous plains from the large windows and witness the magic that brings visitors here. By being set on the second floor of the main lodge, it allows for incredible views of the plains.

The dining area is situated on the ground floor and is where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. But you can have the choice to enjoy dishes on the outside terrace or taken on the private veranda of your room. For more romance, you can request to enjoy a starlit dinner that is set on top of a hill overlooking the lodge and the valley. As the sun sets and you enjoy the warmth of a bonfire, your dinner and drinks will be served as the stars sparkle in the magnificent African night sky. The large outdoor patio area is a brilliant spot to spend an evening or late afternoon, lounging in chairs by the fire pit as you enjoy tasty snacks and cocktails. Head upstairs in the main lodge to the bar where you will enjoy an incredible selection of fine wines and spirits, all whilst overlooking the bountiful Serengeti. You can head to the exquisite infinity pool just off from the main lodge terrace and have spectacular views out over the plains as well. You can relax on the deck chairs and soak up the sun, or take a dip into the comforting water to take a respite from the African heat.

Each private room enjoys an en-suite and private veranda and is designed for every guest to feel at home. They are designed to blend all the modern comforts seamlessly with unique African accents and to provide a wonderful place to relax after a long day of game drives. The lodge greatly uses the space with a lounge area that looks out over the Lobo Valley, which then leads to a raised sleeping area with its king-sized bed that calls you to enjoy a slumber. The neutral design within the lodge helps to enhance the natural beauty that surrounds you. You can then enjoy luxury as you head into the en-suite bathroom that has a stone shower with running hot water, double vanity and many other amenities so you can enjoy some indulgence.

Activities at Taasa Lodge

One of the supreme joys when visiting the Serengeti is getting the chance to witness the wonder of the Great Migration, usually through June to October. You will be able to see herds of wildebeest and zebras as they cross rivers to find areas to raise their young. Head out on a game drive where you can explore the plains and have the chance to get up close with the animals that inhabit the area. Your expert guide will take you to all the best spots for animal sightings and give you in-depth detail of the family dynamics of the animals.

You can also enjoy a wonderful walking safari where you can get more of a feel of the sights, sounds and smells of the plains. Considered being more personal than the game drives, you will have the chance to learn how to survive out in the bush. You will be given an insight into finding medicinal plants, learning how to start a fire and maybe even have the chance for an animal encounter. If you want to explore the Serengeti in a more extravagant way, head out onto a balloon safari. You can soar through the skies, looking down at the herds as they canter across the valley before settling down for a delicious bush breakfast (at an additional cost). Or head out on a night safari where you will be bundled into the open-top cruisers packed with blankets to keep you warm under the starlit skies. By going out on a game drive during the evening, you will get to see magnificent sights and enjoy witnessing the beautiful nocturnal creatures that lurk in the night.

If you want to learn more about the culture of the African people in the area, you can head on an educational and enlightening trip to a nearby Maasai Village. You will learn about their distinctive customs, dress and cultural beliefs. Whilst enjoying the warming embrace of the Maasai people, you can also head to the local Maasai Market that sells wonderful pieces of authentic crafts and merchandise made by the local community.

Tripadvisor comments Taasa Lodge

We ended our East African safari at Taasa Lodge and while all our accommodations in Africa were great, Taasa was our favourite by far! Their staff are so attentive and kind, our driver and tracker were so knowledgeable and went out of their way to look for animals we were hoping to see. Being on the private reserve allowed us to get closer to the animals as we weren't restricted to staying on the road. We were there in shoulder season and a couple nights were the only guests, so to say we were spoiled is an understatement! We loved being out and only seeing another safari vehicle from time to time.
